OSHA Recordkeeping
OSHA has many rules and regulations that pertain to keeping records of occupational injuries and illnesses. Keeping accurate records lets employers, employee representatives, employees, and OSHA identify trends in order to make improvements.
Key components of OSHA Recordkeeping include:
Fatalities or injuries that require: overnight admission to a hospital, amputation, or loss of an eye must be reported to OSHA via phone, in person, or submission on their website within the specified time frame.
Any new cases of work-related injury or illness that involve death, days away from work, restricted work or transferred to another job, loss of consciousness, or medical treatment beyond first aid must also be recorded on the OSHA 300 Log.
Whenever a case is added to the log, it must also be documented on the OSHA 301 Injury and Illness Incident Report.
As each new year begins you must also complete the OSHA 300A Summary and post it in an area where employees are able to view from February 1 - April 30 for the previous year.
Employers with 100 or more employees in certain high-hazard industries must electronically submit OSHA Form 300 and 301 information to OSHA by March 2nd for the previous year. Electronic submissions are sent thru the Injury Tracking Application.
